Strategic Connections: My Path to Professional Growth at George Brown College

Image
I have learned and grown, both personally and professionally, throughout my time as a post-graduate student at George Brown College. The connections I have made throughout the Strategic Relationship Marketing program and the lessons I've learned from industry professionals and alumni will follow me throughout my professional life. The time I have spent in this program, especially this course, has given me the necessary tips and tricks to be successful in my career.   What I Learned Attending the Strategic Relationship Marketing Seminar Series was an impactful experience for me, this course provided industry leaders and alumni who came in to share their insights and industry knowledge. Arsheen Chopra, an Ad Operations Specialist at Cluep, was one speaker who inspired me. She shared with us how networking played a critical role in her career, especially networking on LinkedIn. She reminded us that, even when it feels challenging, making connections and building relationships is key...

Building Trust Through Loyalty: Lessons from Stephanie Joseph-Flatts

Image
This week during my  Strategic Relationship Marketing Seminar Series  with Katidja Youssouf, we had the pleasure of hearing from Stephanie Joseph-Flatts. Stephanie is a George Brown College graduate from the class of 2009, while also holding a diploma in Business Administration Marketing. She has over 16 years of experience in the marketing field, and she focused on a crucial part of the industry today —loyalty marketing. Stephanie began by explaining to us the difference between  acquisition  and  retention . She explained to us that while acquiring new customers is always important, keeping ones that you already have is actually more valuable in the long run. One fact that really stood out to me was that existing customers are 130% more valuable than new customers. This really made me think. A lot of companies focus so heavily on finding new people, but Stephanie made us realize that building strong relationships with current customers leads to loyalty and tru...

Overcoming the Fear of Success: Lessons from Andre Smith

Image
Overcoming the Fear of Success This week during my  Strategic Relationship Marketing Seminar Series  with Katidja Youssouf, we were introduced to  Andre Smith, the CEO of Flip & Floss. Andre gave a very inspiring talk about his journey, his company’s approach to customer experience management (CXM), and his career advice. He started off the  morning by sharing his personal story, explaining how he moved from Jamaica to Canada. He also mentioned how he attended York University, which I thought was cool because that is where I also did my undergrad. He then worked at CAMH and later at WSIB before making the bold decision to quit his job and start Flip & Floss. One of the most interesting things he spoke about was the "fear of success," which is not something people usually talk about. It made me think about how a lot of the time people tend to hold themselves back because they are be afraid of what success might bring.  Principles of Customer Experience Ma...

Image retrieved from stock.adobe.com       As a new student at George Brown College, I appreciate the number of resources available to me throughout my time here. They have provided me with the opportunity to connect with industry professionals, gain insight and knowledge, and continue to assist me in learning and growing professionally. I was delighted when a networking event was brought to one of my classes, the  Strategic Relationship Marketing Seminar Series  with Katidja Youssouf. This event gave me the chance to connect with three George Brown College alumni, who years ago were in the same spot as I am and who are now successful industry professionals. During the couple of hours they visited our class, I listened to them speak about their academic and career journeys, learning about each opportunity and challenge they encountered along the way.      The Alumni Panel included Kate Loskutova from  Lexus National Marketing , Cl...
